ABC/Image Group LAConsidering she's the most popular person on Twitter, with 108 million followers and counting, it's ironic that Katy Perry thinks social media is a bad thing.  But as she tells Refinery29, she kinda wishes it didn't exist.

"A lot of us are living for that picture, and then the currency is the 'like,'" Katy explains. "It's hard because I'd rather not care about that and just live my life. We buy clothing and products or pose a certain way or go to an event to get a picture -- it's not good for us as a society."

"I think it's actually the decline of civilization if we're going extreme about it," she adds. "We have to find a balance, and I'm trying to find my own personal balance with it because I'm just as much a victim as everybody else."

In fact, last month, Katy tweeted, "i can’t wait till instagram culture is over so we can all be ourselves again."  Of course, that's not keeping the singer from promoting her new line of CoverGirl lip gloss on Instagram like crazy.

"With all my collections, I always try and push the boundaries, to try new things," Katy tells Refinery29. "This one has all the colors you want, but I've also got a really interesting blue and a white that looks great on all skin tones...Trends change so fast, so it's all about going out on a limb."

Paul Drinkwater/NBCLady Bird star Saoirse Ronan just won a Golden Globe award and she'll likely get an Oscar nomination next week.  But while her career is on the rise, the 23-year-old Irish actress' love live isn't: She's single.  So of course, when she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Thursday, Ellen made her play an extremely lengthy game of "Who'd You Rather"...and a music superstar came out on top.

On "Who'd You Rather," Ellen shows her guests pictures of two celebrities, and the guest has to choose which one they'd "rather."  Ellen started Saoirse off with Timothée Chalamet [shah lah MAY], her Lady Bird co-star.  The game then progressed with the following picks:

1. Timothée Chalamet over Colin Farrell
2. Timothée Chalamet over Harry Styles
3. Jamie Dornan over Timothée Chalamet
4. Ed Sheeran over Jamie Dornan
5. Daniel Radcliffe over Ed Sheeran
6. Kendrick Lamar over Daniel Radcliffe
7. Drake over Kendrick Lamar
8. Mark-Paul Gosselaar over Drake
9. Mark-Paul Gosselaar over Orlando Bloom
10. Zac Efron over Mark-Paul Gosselaar
11. Jake Gyllenhaal over Zac Efron
12. Chris Martin over Jake Gyllenhaal
13. Chance the Rapper over Chris Martin

Then, finally, given the options of Chance and Bruno Mars, Saoirse didn't even let Ellen finish -- she immediately said, "Bruno, definitely!"  "There's a few that are instant for sure," she said. "Like a gut reaction."

When Ellen pointed out that sadly, Bruno has a girlfriend, Saoirse said, "Y'know, companionship is fine. Even just a friendship, I'm fine with. Even if we just, like, email or have a correspondence."

"OK, we'll get that happening," Ellen said as the audience laughed.

Ryan McGinleyDespite having performed at the Super Bowl halftime show twice before, Justin Timberlake will be performing this year like it’s his first time.

In a new behind-the-scenes video series from Super Bowl sponsor Pepsi, the singer talks about his fresh approach to the February 4 show.

"I am getting an opportunity to have the stage to myself," Justin says. "I really am looking at it as my first time.”

The clip also includes shots of Justin at rehearsals, and we also see him plotting elements of the show.

"I believe it’s also the place where there's nothing wrong with giving people what they want,” he says. “…For 12 or 13 minutes, we’ll have a really good time.”

Justin previously performed at the Super Bowl halftime show with ‘NSYNC in 2001, and with Janet Jackson in 2004, which gave us the now-infamous "wardrobe malfunction."

ABC/Paula LoboEven though it's a pop hit, Camila Cabello's latest hit, "Never Be the Same," also works as a country song, thanks to its melody and structure.  Don't believe it?  Just ask country superstars Keith Urban and Kelsea Ballerini.

During a Facebook Live event announcing his new tour on Wednesday night, Keith welcomed Kelsea -- who'll be his opening act -- onstage for a duet.  They then harmonized on "Never Be the Same."  And Camila was pretty excited about it.

"OH MY GOD!!!! @KeithUrban AND @KelseaBallerini THIS. IS. MAGICAL," she tweeted, along with a clip of the performance."

Keith and Kelsea aren't the only fans of the song, either.  During a recent livestream, Demi Lovato said that if she could cover any song, it would be "Never Be the Same."

Demi added that she's "obsessed" with the song, and noted that she's known Camila for a "really long time," since Demi was a judge on X Factor, where Camila's former group, Fifth Harmony, was first formed.

Camila re-tweeted Demi's comments, and replied, "OMG Demi!!!!!!! i’m smiling so big, thank you so much this made my day."

The group, along with former member Steven Page, will be inducted during the 47th Annual Juno Awards on March 25.  BNL and Page will reunite for a special one-time-only appearance to mark the occasion.

BNL's Ed Robertson said in a statement, "We are honoured to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. For almost 30 years we’ve worked hard to write the best songs we can, make the best records we can make, and do the best shows possible. We’ve traveled the world with our music, but Canada has always been home. This is very special for us.”

Page added, "I’m incredibly proud of all we achieved together, the greatest of all being the fact that our music continues to be a part of so many Canadians’ lives. Congratulations to the guys -- I’m humbled by our induction into the Hall of Fame."  He then cracked, "Here’s hoping that next year we will be inducted into Hall and Oates.”

BNL, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, have won eight Juno Awards -- the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys -- and have also been nominated for a number of Grammys.  Known for quirky songs like "If I Had $1,000,000" and "Brian Wilson, they have a rabid and loyal fan following.  In the U.S., they're best known for the hits "One Week," "It's All Been Done" and "Pinch Me," and for recording the theme song for The Big Bang Theory.

BNL will also sing the Canadian National Anthem at this year's NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, February 18 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Ryan McGinleyAt 8 a.m. Eastern time Thursday, Justin Timberlake dropped a video for "Supplies," his latest track from Man of the Woods, due February 2.

The trippy video, directed by Dave Meyers, seems to show Timberlake taking up the struggle against racism and materialism.  At his side is his partner in crime, stunning Mexican actress and pop star Eiza González Reyna. The pair engage in a steamy hook-up when they're not unplugging people seemingly kept zombified by technology.

Pharrell Williams
also appears in the video for the song he co-produced.

Timberlake recently added 10 new shows to his upcoming Man of the Woods tour, which kicks off March 13 in Toronto. The new dates include second shows in Toronto, New York, Chicago, Boston, Montreal, Las Vegas, San Jose and Los Angeles. He’s also added shows in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

Tickets for the second shows in previously announced cities go on sale January 22, while the Pennsylvania dates go on sale January 29.

ABC/Heidi GutmanOn Monday's Tonight Show, Camila Cabello joined host Jimmy Fallon and The Roots in the Tonight Show Music Room for a performance of her hit "Havana" -- performed with classroom instruments.

In the recurring segment, Fallon and his house band The Roots back music artists for a version of one of their popular songs using instruments you would find in a classroom, like tambourines, xylophones, hand clappers and kazoos.

Cabello's segment was recorded last Friday, when she appeared as a guest on the show.

"Havana" appears on Cabello's debut solo album Camila, released on Friday. During his introduction of the segment, Fallon announced that the former Fifth Harmony member became the first debut artist to hit number 1 in a hundred countries on iTunes.

Mark SurridgeIn 2017, Ed Sheeran was everywhere, from the top of the charts to Game of Thrones.  But in 2018, Ed promises there won't be that much going on for him...despite the fact that he's launching a huge worldwide stadium tour.

Speaking to the British paper The Sun, Ed says, "It’s gonna be a kind of boring year.  There’s not actually going to be that much going on other than touring."

Ed adds that in 2018, he's going to "do a lot of songwriting," including getting back together with his "Shape of You" collaborator Steve Mac.  On top of that, he says, "I’m also doing a movie, putting that together, and that shoots in 2019.”  Sounds like Ed's "boring" year would be pretty exciting for any other artist.

Ed's stadium tour kicks off in March in Australia and arrives in the U.K. and Ireland in May.  He tells The Sun that during that time, his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn will be able to join him on the road pretty often.

"It’s actually really easy for Cherry to come," he explains. "She works and can’t give up her job, but it’s gonna be easy because it’s weekends and two months of it is in Europe, so she can just pop out [and visit me].”

The stadium tour reaches the U.S. in August.  Ed's buddy Taylor Swift will be doing a U.S. stadium tour during that time as well.

Joseph LlanesIn a new video promoting his single "Smoke Clears," Andy Grammer goes undercover as a ride share driver and helps some unsuspecting people learn how much they mean to their best friends.

Setting the scene, Andy explains in the video, "My song 'Smoke Clears' is extremely autobiographical; it's about me and my wife being there for each other through some of the toughest times...so this song is about riding the highs and lows with your 'ride or die.'"

He adds, "I'm gonna be picking up friends and we're gonna get into a little conversation about what makes someone a 'ride or die.'

Cue a montage of Andy picking up various people, who then describe who their best friends are, and what their "ride or die" qualities are.  Then, we see Andy picking up the friends, many of whom freak out and start crying when they see that it's Andy behind the wheel.

As he drives his passengers through a car wash and a fast-food drive-thru, he's expresses how much he's been touched by the stories that they've told him about their friendships.

"I'm just, like, in love with humanity right now" exclaims Andy. "You can't have a day like this and not be, like, 'Aw, man, there's a lot of really cool people out there that are showing up for each other!'"

The video was made in conjunction with SoulPancake, actor Rainn Wilson's media and production company.  Wilson appeared in the innovative video for Andy's first hit, "Keep Your Head Up."  Andy and Rainn met several years ago through a former roommate.

Sergi Alexander/WireImageChristina Perri just received a gift she'll love for "A Thousand Years."

The singer and her husband, entertainment reporter Paul Costabile, welcomed their first child together, a baby girl.  In an Instagram posting Wednesday, Costabile wrote, "The greatest gift we’ve ever known !!! Welcome to the world Carmella Stanley Costabile born today. Mom and our little principessa are doing great. Dad can’t stop crying!"

The two wed in December at New York’s City Hall, four years to the day they met.  Paul popped the question in June and wrote on Instagram that it was love at first sight.

"I knew I wanted to ask this girl to marry me the day she walked into the green screen for an interview almost 4 years ago," he wrote. "I finally asked her right here tonight and she said yes!”

In August, Christina announced the couple was expecting.

Mert & MarcusTaylor Swift has a Reputation for trademarking her lyrics and song titles, and it looks as if she's at it again.

According to TMZ, the singer’s company, TAS Rights Management, LLC, has filed documents to secure the rights to the phrase “Big Reputation.” The phrase is a lyric from her song “End Game," where she sings, "Big reputation/big reputation/Ooh, you and me would be a big conversation."

Apparently, Taylor is looking to use “Big Reputation” on merchandise items including sunglasses, cell phone cases, pajamas and gloves.

She’s also reportedly trademarking her own signature, for usage on bathrobes, hair pins, dolls and toy glow sticks.

So what’s her “End Game”? The trademark filings will give her legal protection against knockoffs.

Taylor previously trademarked a bunch of phrases from her 1989 album, including "This Sick Beat," "We Never Go Out of Style" and "I Could Show You Incredible Things."

Greg WilliamsNot content with making a guest appearance in Taylor Swift's video for "End Game," Ed Sheeran will also be popping up in a new video by Eminem.

Ed posted a photo of himself on Instagram with the caption "River" -- the name of his collaboration with Eminem.  He's seen sitting in what looks like an abandoned house, holding his guitar in front of him.

Eminem posted the same photo, with the caption "So let the river run... @teddysphotos on set #REVIVAL."  "@Teddysphotos" is Ed's Instagram handle.

On the U.K. singles chart, Ed's song "Perfect" is #1, while "River," which appears on Em's album Revival, is #2. In the U.S., "Perfect" is #1 on the Billboard Hot 100; "River" is #32 with a bullet.

No word on when the video will debut.

Shervin LainezIf you thought you were the biggest Stranger Things fan ever, think again: Ingrid Michaelson's got you beat.

The singer is so obsessed with the Netflix sci-fi drama that she’s recording a collection of tunes inspired by the show, called Stranger Songs.

“Finding your connection to another’s art isn’t something I’ve ever built a record on but I feel so inspired by the world Stranger Things has created,” Ingrid says in a statement.

“This show brings me back to a place of safety and comfort when everything seemed simple," she adds. "Especially after losing my parents, the idea of living in that space, even for an hour at a time, is not only intoxicating, it’s necessary.”

She adds, “I started writing poems inspired by the show and I realized how connected I was to it and my childhood and to that innocence lost.”

The new album will reportedly be released to coincide with Stranger Things’ season three premiere, which has yet to be announced. Season two of the hit Netflix show debuted in late October.

Ironically, Ingrid has a development deal with a Netflix competitor, Hulu, to write and star in a comedy series called The Way I Am, which is loosely based on her own life.

James ZwaldoThe Chainsmokers are back with a brand-new song, but it's angrier and darker than past hits like "Closer" and "Something Just Like This."

The track called "Sick Boy," sung by the duo's Drew Taggart, is a social commentary with lyrics that seem to describe the personas that we construct for ourselves via social media and movies. "Welcome to the narcissism/We're united under our indifference," goes one lyric. There's also a repeated refrain of, "This is us/This is us."

Drew also sings, "Make no mistake, I live in a prison/That I build myself, it is my religion" and "Feed yourself with my life's work/How many likes is my life worth?"

The song's video features Drew and his musical partner Alex Pall, plus a drummer, performing on a bare stage.  At times, Drew appears to morph into some kind of monster, while Alex's piano bursts into flames.

According to their label, the track is "a song about self-identity in today’s world and standing tall in the face of what you can and can’t control."  No word on whether or not this is a one-off single, or the first release from a new EP or album.

The Chainsmokers are nominated at the upcoming Grammy Awards for "Something Just Like This," in the category of Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.   They already have a Grammy for Best Dance Recording -- they won it last year for "Don't Let Me Down."

ABC/Image Group LATimothee Chalamet [sha-lah-MAY] and Rebecca Hall, Selena Gomez’s co-stars in the upcoming Woody Allen film A Rainy Day in New York, announced this week that they would be donating their salaries from the film to Time’s Up and other charities.  Now, it seems that Selena has done the same.

A source close to the actress tells People that Selena has, in fact, already “made a significant donation anonymously” to Time’s Up that “far exceeded her salary for the film.”

Selena has yet to make a public statement against Allen, who has been accused of molesting his daughter Dylan Farrow, a claim which he denies.

Selena was asked by Billboard last November if she considered the director’s past before signing on to the movie.

“To be honest, I’m not sure how to answer -- not because I’m trying to back away from it,” she said. “[The Harvey Weinstein allegations] actually happened right after I had started [on the movie]. They popped up in the midst of it. And that’s something, yes, I had to face and discuss. I stepped back and thought, ‘Wow, the universe works in interesting ways.’”

As previously reported, Selena's mom Mandy Teefey told a fan on Instagram that she'd tried to warn the singer about appearing in Allen's film.

Teefey wrote, "No one can make Selena do anything she doesn’t want to. I had a long talk with her about not working with him and it didn’t click...No one controls her. She makes all her own decisions. No matter how hard you try to advise. It falls on deaf ears.”

The Recording AcademySam Smith and U2 have joined the lineup for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, airing January 28 live from New York City.

U2's slot is being billed as a "special performance."  It's not unthinkable that the Irish legends might perform a tribute to the late Cranberries singer and fellow Ireland native Dolores O'Riordan, who died unexpectedly this week at age 46.  U2 isn't a nominee this year, nor is Sam.

Also added to the bill are rapper Kendrick Lamar, one of this year's leading nominees, as well as the odd couple of Elton John and Miley Cyrus.  Elton and Miley will team for one of Elton's classic hits, in honor of the fact that two days after the Grammys, Elton will be saluted at an all-star Grammy tribute concert.  During that concert, which will air later this year as a CBS special, Elton and his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin will receive the Recording Academy President's Merit Award.

As previously reported, other Grammy performers include Alessia Cara, Bruno Mars, Pink, Lady Gaga, Kesha and many more.  The Grammys, hosted by James Corden, air on CBS January 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET, live from New York's Madison Square Garden.
